Position Summary

The Right-of-Way Agent secures the land rights and easements that allow utility, transmission, pipeline, and transportation projects to move forward. This role works directly with property owners to negotiate acquisitions, document agreements, and keep assigned corridors on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate fee, easement, and temporary construction rights with property owners and their representatives.
  • Prepare and present written offers based on approved appraisals and valuation reports.
  • Lead in-person and virtual landowner meetings to explain project scope, compensation, and timelines.
  • Maintain accurate parcel records, contact logs, and acquisition status within project databases.
  • Coordinate with title, survey, and engineering teams to resolve parcel discrepancies.
  • Advance relocation referrals, condemnation packages, and closings through completion.
  • Provide regular progress updates to project managers and client representatives.
  • Apply federal and state ROW regulations, including the Uniform Act, to every transaction.

Required Qualifications

  • Two or more years of right-of-way, real estate, or land acquisition experience.
  • Working knowledge of easements, legal descriptions, and title documents.
  • Strong negotiation skill paired with clear written communication.
  • Valid driver’s license and readiness to travel within assigned service areas.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ROW tracking systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • IRWA coursework or progress toward the SR/WA designation.
  • Experience on utility, transmission, pipeline, or transportation corridors.
  • Familiarity with the Uniform Relocation Assistance Act.
  • Bilingual ability (Spanish or other languages) for landowner outreach.

Work Environment

Field-based role with regular travel across project corridors. Work includes property visits, varied terrain, and a mix of office and on-site activity.
